San Antonio Marathon Information

The Competitor Group owns and operates the popular series. It consists of a variety of road running events. They have nearly 30 major US destination tour stops, including San Antonio, and four European tour stops every year. These events are well known for the cheerleaders, live bands, and themed water stations that they include on all of their race routes.

San Antonio Marathon accepts both individual and group/team registration. There is no fee for group/team registration, but the group must include a minimum of ten registered participants.

The San Antonio Marathon events in each city include a Bike Tour, Wheelchair Invitational, 2 Personal Half Marathon Relay, Half Marathon, Marathon, and ING KIDS ROCK. ING is a non-competitive event for children in kindergarten through seventh grade. It is not timed. Children have the option of completing this one-mile course on the day of the race or completing a cumulative marathon-training program prior to race day to become a marathon finisher.

All participants include a projected finishing time on their entry forms, which determines their corral assignments for the races. Most races have multiple waves for several of the finishing times. As a spectator, it is important to be aware of this logistic when setting up a race-viewing schedule for a particular day. This staggering method ensures that the pack of runners will spread out, giving every runner the opportunity to set a personal racing rhythm for the entirety of the race.

Every San Antonio Marathon event series includes local bands on stages spaced at mile intervals throughout the course. Additionally, they also often have a headline concert at the finish line for the marathon and 1/2 marathon. These headline concerts include a number of big name performers, such as country singer Jo Dee Messina.

As each San Antonio Marathon event draws a large number of participants and even larger number of spectators, it is important to have a meet up plan with family and friends. Decide where you want to meet up with people in the Family Reunion area ahead of time. This area features clearly-marked, tall signs with letters from A to Z, making it easy to pick a letter for your designated meet up spot.

Some of the participant perks for the San Antonio Marathon includes the live bands, cheerleaders, and scenic highlights of the cities that host the events. All participants will receive a t-shirt, finisher certificate, swag bag, and finisher medal, as well as free support throughout the course. Participants also get free admission to the headline concert (if applicable), finish line festival, and 2 days Health & Fitness Expo.

All race divisions for the marathon and half marathon have age group awards for both male and female categories. The Competitor Group mails out the awards four to six weeks after the race results have been finalized.
